Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Series — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BM3F)
This is a 3.85V, 2900mAh (11.17Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and Mi 8 Explorer Edition Dual SIM TD-LTE. It replaces the original BM3F cell when the factory battery has degraded, stopped holding charge, or failed outright. Voltage and footprint match the OEM spec — 80.00 x 65.00 x 3.25mm.
- Mi 8 Explorer and Explorer Edition compatibility: All three fit models use the same BM3F cell format, connector pin-out, and BMS handshake protocol. The voltage rail feeding the Snapdragon 845 and the under-display fingerprint sensor is identical across variants, so one cell covers the full Explorer lineup.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Mi 8 Explorer platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, fast-charge negotiation re-established on the second cycle, and the fuel gauge IC tracked state-of-charge without erratic jumps after one full calibration cycle.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current fast charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell. Skip this step and percentage readings will drift for several cycles.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Mi 8 Explorer after a cell swap
This is a voltage-cliff failure, not a capacity problem. When the modem fires a transmission burst or the AMOLED panel peaks brightness, instantaneous current draw spikes sharply. A new cell the fuel gauge IC hasn't profiled yet can dip below the BMS cutoff voltage under that load even while showing 25% remaining. The phone shuts down to protect the cell. One full discharge-charge cycle at standard charging speed recalibrates the coulomb counter and moves the cutoff trigger to the correct state-of-charge point.
USB-PD fast charge not negotiating after battery replacement
The Mi 8 Explorer's charge IC checks BMS handshake data on the first charge after a cell swap. If the new cell presents higher internal impedance than the stored profile expects, the charge IC defaults to standard 5V/1A input rather than stepping up to fast-charge voltage. This is a protection response, not a fault. Run one full standard charge cycle, let the charge IC log the new cell's impedance baseline, and fast charging will re-engage. Confirm by checking the charging status notification — it should display "Fast charging" at the start of the second charge cycle.
