XTOOL InPlus IP508 / IP508S — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (XBL18650-1S1P)
This is a 3.7V, 3350mAh Li-ion cell replacing part number XBL18650-1S1P in the XTOOL InPlus IP508 and IP508S scan tools. It restores power to the scanner when the original cell has degraded past the point of holding a usable charge. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.
- IP508 and IP508S compatibility: Both models use the same single-cell 1S1P battery configuration on the same 3.7V power rail with the same connector and BMS handshake — one cell covers both variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the IP508 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, balanced correctly to 4.2V at full charge, and cut off cleanly at the low-voltage threshold without tripping a fault state.
- Data preservation before swap: Export all saved vehicle profiles and session logs to a PC or USB before removing the battery — the IP508 stores vehicle data in RAM backed by the main cell, and that data does not survive a full power loss during the swap.
Why the IP508 won't boot after a new battery is fitted
A fresh replacement cell ships at a storage charge — typically 3.6V to 3.8V — which can sit at or below the IP508's minimum boot threshold. The scanner's firmware requires the cell to present above a set voltage before it will initialise the display and OS. If the unit shows no response when you press power after fitting this cell, plug it into the charger for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. Once the cell climbs above approximately 3.85V, the scanner will boot normally.
Wireless connection dropping mid-diagnostic session
The IP508's Bluetooth and WiFi radios draw a brief current spike when transmitting, which can cause voltage sag on a degraded or partially charged cell. When the cell voltage dips, the wireless module loses power momentarily and drops the link — even if the screen still shows the battery indicator as adequate. This symptom appears most often during live data streaming or when the scanner is polling multiple modules at once. Charge the replacement cell fully to 4.2V before running any wireless diagnostic session to avoid sag-triggered disconnects.
