This 7.2V, 1800mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original pack in the Zebra Cameo 3 portable thermal printer. The Cameo 3 is a compact mobile printer used in retail, logistics, and field service for on-demand label and receipt printing. It fits both OEM part numbers CC15294-3 and CC15294-4 — same connector, same voltage rail, same BMS handshake.
- Cameo 3 compatibility: The CC15294-3 and CC15294-4 share an identical physical form factor, connector pinout, and 7.2V nominal voltage rail. Both fit the same battery bay on the Cameo 3 without modification. The BMS communicates charge state to the printer over the same data line in both variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the Cameo 3 platform. The BMS held the voltage rail steady during paper feed motor start surges, and the printer accepted the pack without throwing a battery fault code.
- First-use print sequence: After installing, charge the battery fully, then print five test labels before deploying the unit. The Cameo 3's paper feed motor draws a higher current burst on the first few feeds — running a short print sequence confirms the BMS current profile has settled correctly for the new cells.
Why the Cameo 3 refuses to print after sitting in a drawer
Ni-MH cells self-discharge faster than lithium chemistries — a Cameo 3 left unused for two to three months can drop below the printer's minimum motor drive voltage. When that happens, the printer powers on but sends nothing to the print head or feed motor. The BMS may also lock out discharge if cell voltage falls below the protection threshold. Plug into the charger for a full cycle before expecting the unit to print — do not attempt a print job from a deeply discharged pack.
Print coming out faded or uneven on a charged battery
The Cameo 3's thermal print head requires a stable voltage to hold consistent temperature across the heating element. If the battery is partially discharged or a cell is weak, voltage sags during the print stroke and the head temperature drops mid-line, producing faded or streaky output. This is not a paper or head-alignment fault — it is a voltage delivery issue. Charge the battery to full and retest; if fading continues on a full charge, the individual cells have diverged and the pack needs replacement.
