Why the Axon 20 5G reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The Axon 20 5G uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that builds its capacity model from historical charge and discharge data stored for the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that learned curve no longer matches the actual cell chemistry, so the percentage readout drifts — sometimes by 10–15 points. One full discharge to automatic shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the IC to reset its reference points against the new cell. Until that cycle completes, percentage readings will not track accurately. Do not charge in short bursts during this first cycle.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the 5G modem or display pulls a current spike that drops cell voltage below the BMS protection threshold before the fuel gauge registers the drop. A fresh Li-Polymer cell with an uncalibrated fuel gauge is especially vulnerable in the first few cycles because the IC doesn't yet know where the real voltage cliff sits. The fix is to complete two full discharge-charge cycles without interruption — this lets the BMS and fuel gauge agree on the lower voltage boundary. If shutdowns continue past the second full cycle, check that cell voltage at rest sits above 3.7V before reassembling the device.
